WHAT DOES A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MEAN AND HOW MANY ARE THERE?

Instrument panel lights fall into two categories: Critical warning lights and Service/Informational lights.  The lights are typically designed similar to a stop light scheme; red, yellow and green and the color should indicate to you the seriousness of the light.  Red lights generally mean there is a serious issue and you should pull over immediately and examine the owner’s manual.  A blinking Red light indicates an emergency of sorts and you need to pull over immediately otherwise significant damage may occur to your vehicle.  A yellow light means you should refer to the owners manual problem soon but it’s not critical.  Every manufacturer handles the lighting schemes differently so you should refer to the owner’s manual to have a good understanding.

WHAT ARE SOME CRITICAL WARNING SIGNS?

Some Critical warning lights that most vehicles have are: Engine oil pressure, brake lights, vehicle charging system, air bags, door ajar, engine coolant temperature, emission system, ABS brake system, seat belt, lamps, and service reminders/seat belt.
